Charminar is in the list of World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. Char meaning 4 in Hindi dialect and Minar is a Pillar. Constructed in 1591, is a Mosque which remained a Mosque for about 350 years until it was made into a monument eventually after India has earned its independence from the British Rule in 1947 The building has four stories in total, of which the top most story is used as a Mosque for prayers.

It is believed that Quli Qutb Shah, who was the reigning King then, had promised to his Lord that he would erect this Mosque, if the plague that was consuming the city was taken away. As per the promise, this erected soon.

Like how one does not count the calories when on a holiday, no tourist must count their minutes when visiting a great destination. The more destinations you see, the more memories you carry back to your home. After all, you don’t keep coming back to the same destination again and again in your life. So when you set your foot in Hyderabad, it is recommended to visit all the cultural heritage spots as well instead of limiting your itinerary with just fun-activity zones.

One such place is Charminar, which is on the list of World Heritage Sites of UNESCO. So, this makes it even more interesting to see, but the seeing time is only until 5:30 pm which starts from 9:30 am, each day, 7 days a week and 365 days.

This visiting timing is only for those who wish to get inside the Charminar to see the intricacies of the ancient Nizam sculpture. But those who can stay beyond 6:00 pm can witness the magnificent lights that surround this place with hustling crowds that flock to open markets that are outside and around the Minar.

There is a folklore which is quite popular among the masses, that the Emperor Qutb Shah has spotted his to be Queen Bhagamati in Hyderabad, and he has erected Charminar on that very place. Though this is not accepted by Historians, many believe this strongly. It is not a surprise that this has served as a post to the Kingdom that helped to secure as an impenetrable doorway to Hyderabad by its enemies and neighbors.

Since the time it was constructed, it has received an uplift numerours times by the Government. All in all, this city which is considered the Heart of Muslim Community of India which is equally important to the Hindu community of Telugu-speaking states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh equally.

Though it is not updated much from hundreds of years, it is not that it was neglected, but that it is cherished so well that no one dared to make any changes to its original sculpture and it is completely under the able administration of National Archaeological Body and not with the Government of the state.

By visiting Charminar, you can even finish half of the shopping that you must’ve planned to do in the whole of Hyderabad. Yes, that is exactly how loaded this market is which consists of famous names such as Laad Bazaar (also known as Choodi Bazaar) because it is where bangles are brought by tourists and even exported to other states and countries where Bangle market is prominent. One can find dozens of shops with colorful and glittery bangles decorated alongside the streets of Laad Bazaar which is located just aside Charminar.

Laad meaning lacquer is used to make bangles, on which artificial diamonds are studded from where its name is derived. In this 1-kilometre (0.62 mi)-long shopping strip, most of the shops sell bangles, saris, wedding related items, and imitation jewelry.

It is a fact that most of the shopping malls across the country which sell imitation jewelry, goes from this market at half the price. So guys, make the most of this opportunity to grab as many favourite designs as possible for all your parties for the next 3 years!!
