The Zoo of Hyderabad city which is officially called as the Nehru Zoological Park is open for public reach since 1963. This destination is exclusively for getting a peek of Wild Animals of India and also a few species that are under an extinction threat in the recent years. So be it a curious child or a wildlife photographer, every visitor can make the most of this well-set spot that sits almost over a 16 km away from the center of the city.

The main intention behind this Zoo was to preserving the endangered species by using conservation as well as breeding techniques under the able guidance of Government conversationalists.

The abundant variety of species that are under the protection of this Zoo has been a point of interest even to the zoologists who conduct research studies. The entire collection of mammals, reptiles and birds together make up to about 1500 types, which speaks of its richness. The Mir Alam Tank is one of the reasons for the massive bird migration that happens during the summer and winter seasons from across the borders of India. This being operated under the Forest Department of the State, is situated close to the Tank and therefore has the migratory birds to make a visit quite regularly.

This facility is also used in order to create teaching arena for the children to know how to take care of our environment so that they can be a part in contributing towards wildlife preservation. The 380 acre Park has a specialty to it for placing the order of the animals in a zoological order.

The enclosures replicate a natural habitat just like one can find in a safari instead of keeping in a closed and dark environment. This not only keeps the animals healthy, but also makes the visitors experience the real environments in which a species exist in a natural world out there. The breeding of endangered animals is regularly conducted successfully and has been attracting international attention from zoologists.

Going to the fun part that is offered in the Zoo, there are Safaris for Lion, Asian Bear and Bisons. For those who do not have the patience to see each and every species one by one, there’s a Toy Train option that can cover most of the sections in a single ride. This is fun for the kids and can save a lot of time for the elders!

And then there is the more interesting way to watch the aquatic collection in the beautifully placed Aquariums. The Jurassic and Butterfly Parks are other attractions which you cannot afford to miss when visiting this Zoo. Though this facility is not open to visitors after evening hours, still the Nocturnal Animal House can give you an opportunity too experience the wildlife in the night vision.

Visiting Zoo is a one day affair as there is so much to cover inside the Zoo. But if you are short on time and want to see other great places too nearby, these are a couple of attractions around the Zoo. Happy Zooing!!! :-)
